Tauhu Recipe

Instructions

1.Prepare the Tauhu: Cut the tauhu into 1-inch cubes. In a bowl, toss the tauhu cubes with cornstarch until evenly coated. This step ensures a crispy exterior when cooked.

2.Cook the Tauhu: Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large non stick pan or wok over medium high heat. Add the tauhu cubes to the pan and fry until all sides are golden brown, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the tauhu from the pan and set aside on a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.

3.Prepare the Vegetables: In the same pan, add a little more oil if needed and sauté the garlic and ginger until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Add the onions, red bell peppers, green bell peppers, carrots, and broccoli. Stir fry for 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are tender crisp.

4.Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), sesame oil, water, sugar, and white pepper. Stir until combined. Pour the sauce over the vegetables and stir to coat evenly.

5.Combine and Serve: Add the cooked tauhu back to the pan and gently mix to combine with the vegetables and sauce. Cook for an additional 2 minutes to let the flavors meld together. Transfer to a serving dish, garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds if desired. Serve hot with steamed rice or noodles.

            Notes

            • Make it Vegan: Use a vegan oyster sauce or omit it altogether.
            • Add Spice: For a spicy kick, add sliced chili peppers or a drizzle of chili oil.
            • Protein Boost: Toss in some cooked chickpeas or edamame for additional protein.
            • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in a pan or microwave.
            • Customization: Feel free to swap out the vegetables with your favorites, such as zucchini, mushrooms, or snap peas.
